A smarter approach to early fire detection

Electron Global Engineering is contributing to the development of a Multi-Modal Intelligent Fire Detection System, an advanced research project exploring how artificial intelligence, computer vision and connected sensor technologies can strengthen early fire detection in complex indoor environments.

The project is intended for high-risk facilities such as factories, warehouses and industrial buildings, where early and accurate detection is critical to protecting people, property and business operations.

How the proposed system works

The proposed system combines infrared and IP cameras with smoke, temperature, gas and other environmental sensors. Visual and sensor information is processed using machine-learning and edge-computing technologies to identify flames, smoke, abnormal temperature changes and other possible fire indicators in real time.

By comparing several sources of information rather than relying on a single input, the research aims to reduce false alarms, shorten detection time and maintain more reliable performance in demanding indoor environments.

Fire detection with location intelligence

A central objective is to identify not only whether a fire has occurred, but also where it is located. The research explores three-dimensional localisation techniques to estimate the position of a detected fire within a building. More accurate location information could help emergency-response personnel identify the affected area sooner, assess the developing risk and coordinate action more effectively.

Connected monitoring and alerts

The proposed platform is being designed to support real-time fire and risk alerts, GSM- and IoT-based notifications, remote monitoring, cloud connectivity, web and mobile dashboards, historical event records and access to fire-risk information for authorised users.

Project status. This project remains under research and development. Any operational or commercial application will require further validation, testing, system integration and assessment against applicable fire-safety, electrical, cybersecurity and technical standards.
